Petersfield Lions Club’s Presidential Handover took place on Saturday 28th June at Winton House.
With a good turnout of Club Members & Guests and with a sunny evening in Winton House Garden, it was a delightful evening.
Outgoing Lion President Mary Putnam handed over the chain of office to incoming Lion President Lin Piatek.
In her handover speech Mary said “Welcome everyone and thank you for coming, it is going to be a pleasure to handover my Presidency to Lin Piatek, not for the first time! We have had an interesting year starting with one of our new adventures, Lion Hunt on the Heath, brilliantly organised by Dave & Jackie, it was a roaring success!
In the rest of the year we did our usual activities, Christmas Light Switch-On, Envelopes & Tesco Collection. All good money raisers and publicity events.
Then Petersfield Festivities were stopped, so we had to think of more new fundraisers. Luckily our lovely Mayor Lesley, granted us the use of the Rose Room and with the Rosemary Foundation we put on two new events, An Afternoon Tea and an Indian Banquet. Not only were they both a success, they helped us forge a link with the Rosemary Foundation.
Another link we are forging is with Jeremy and his fundraising for QA Hospital Cancer.
Our Charity Stalls in the Market provide an opportunity to save our community by recycling and enabling more children to receive gifts.
Of course our big Service is the Prostate testing day. Successful again with maximum men attending.Even if we only catch it in time for one man, it was more, to him it is everything.
I’ve not mentioned all of our activities, none are possible without our Lions. I have not issued any Presidential Awards, I can’t make that decision as everyone deserves my Award.
From Maureen who can’t attend meetings but brilliant at selling tickets, especially the Fashion Show, Likewise David H, he Serves all our year, no mean feat. We have quiet members like Gill, Hazel & Mike who just get on and do it. We have more upfront members. I see at least 4 here, and that’s not all of them who make such a difference.
So thank you all and I am sure we will all do our very best for Lin”.
Lin thanked Mary for her year as Club President, and said she was looking forward to the year ahead.
